Camera Control
I have not previously used a camera before this class. I took pictures with my phone, not a camera, so I didn’t understand things like ISO, white balance, or exposure. I knew how to work the flash though! For apps I used Lightroom. It was very helpful because my phone camera couldn’t do many things a normal camera can do.
I learned that raising ISO would be most helpful in darker areas. At higher ISO levels, I noticed some digital noise and an exposure change. As you can see, the higher my ISO was, the more overexposed the picture got! For these images I used my phone camera paired with Lightroom.
Flashfill does exactly what it sounds like: fills in the shadows! The flash light wraps itself around the subject and brightens up the shadows. Using flashfill is best when you want to capture an image of something moving.
White balance basically adds a color filter over you image. WB is most helpful when taking pictures in lighting that too warm (orange) or too cool (blue). The lighting in my house makes it very difficult to take pictures with a good temperature, so I usually have to change my WB to something like tungsten which balances the orange-ness of the lights.
The two settings that I think I will utilize most in future shooting situations are Exposure compensation and ISO. These control features could have helped me in the past in many situations. When I’m trying to get a picture of something at night, a higher ISO might’ve helped me to get a good exposure. Thank you everyone for reading! Signing off!
