Hard Light - Shadows

Welcome back everyone!  This post will be about shadows!  To start, I gained inspiration by looking up key words such as “abstract shadow photography” and “hard lighting photography.”  This last month, I took a more observational approach. I would keep an eye out for shadows and take pictures! Occasionally I would stage the shadows, but not very often.

I emphasized shadows as a deliberate theme by ONLY taking pictures of shadows. There would rarely be anything distracting the viewer from the shadow.

This image is my favorite! I was in my brothers room and he was messing around with his sword. I noticed the shadows on the wall and then asked him to pose! I turned off the main light and then used his phone as a small light source. This is how I got the distinct harsh shadows on the wall.

When taking pictures of shadows, it’s important to move light sources around to experiment with the different shapes the subject can cast. Shadows can be found anywhere you look! Knowing how hard lighting works increased my awareness of shadows and photo opportunities. I am most proud of the image I took of my brother with his sword. Without this class, I don’t think I would have taken pictures of things like shadows. Signing off! Thank you for reading :D
